Tax Effective Giving

We want to make the very best of what we receive from you, and there are certain tax benefits to help.

Higher Rate Tax Giving

If you are a higher rate tax payer, you are able to reclaim some portion of your tax back from your donations to us. HM Revenue and Customs will only allow us to claim back the basic rate of tax on your donation.

If, however, you include details of all donations you make throughout the tax year on your Self Assessment tax form, you can claim back the difference between the higher rate of tax 40% or 50% due yourself through your tax return, and the basic rate of 20% at which we reclaim.

For example, if you donate £100, the total value of your donation to Race2Recovery will be £125, so you can claim back £25 if you pay higher rate tax at 40%, or £37.50 if you pay tax at 50%.

If you like, you can then donate the difference back to us.

To complete the Self Assessment, please visit the online return page at HM Revenue or Customs or ask us for more information.

For more information on including claims on your Self Assessment return, please see more detailed information on the HM Revenue and Customs website.

HMRC and Gift Aid donations

Gift Aid

Opting for Gift Aid when you give to Race2Recovery enables us to claim up to an additional third on top of your donation (28p on every £1) from HM Revenue and Customs at no extra cost to you or us.

If you would like to donate to Race2Recovery via cheque and post, please ask us for a printable Gift Aid declaration to fill out and return, which enables us to reclaim Gift Aid tax on your behalf.

Share Giving

Giving shares is an easy and tax efficient way of supporting us, exempt of Capital Gains Tax and allowing you to receive income tax relief on the market value of the shares you donate.

To give shares, simple complete a stock transfer form listing the shares to be taken out of your name and into Race2Recovery. To enable you to claim tax relief on the gifting of shares, we will provide you with a description of the shares sold, the date and a statement confirming their transfer.

For basic tax rate payers, every £1 worth of shares transferred to Race2Recovery is eligible for 20% basic tax rate relief, and so your gift of shares would cost you £1 less 20%, or 80p.

Higher tax rate payers are able to claim at 40% or 50% higher tax rate relief, where your gift of £1 worth of shares would cost £1 less 40% or 50%, or 60, or 50p.

For more information, please see HM Revenue and Customs advice on gifting shares or consult Share Gift, the Share Donation Charity, at www.sharegift.org
