Key Supporters

We appreciate the support of our key supporters, who include:

Ben Collins
Perhaps better known to the public as ‘The Stig’ from BBC’s Top Gear, Ben is an accomplished racing and stunt driver, having competed in almost every form of motorsport worth taking part in. He has stunt-doubled for Daniel Craig in two Bond movies and for Nicholas Cage and continues to carry out precision driving in many films requiring high-speed, high-drama action.

Ben also served in the British Army, tutoring the special services in driving techniques. He has competed in the legendary Le Mans 24 Hour race three times, GTs, NASCAR and was the British equivalent, ASCAR champion.

Once a week, for nearly eight years, Ben strapped himself alongside people who were famous for something other than driving. He guided them around Dunsfold’s infamous Test Track as fast a humanly possible in a reasonably priced car and survived to tell the tale.

“Motor racing is an ultimate test of mental and physical agility because speed can be a cruel mistress. Speed magnifies mistakes and a momentary loss of concentration can result in disaster, which is why drivers relish the challenge of competing in the Paris Dakar and 24-hour endurance races. At the end of the race, you feel like you have no reserves of strength left inside.

The wounded veterans taking part in the Race2Recovery projects make me realise that there is always more in the tank, that you can always go a little further and better than you thought possible.

Their story is truly the stuff of legend. Supporters can share their inspirational journey and their expression of motivation, determination and bravery.” – Ben Collins

Alister McRae

“Having competed in rallying from the Scottish Rally Championship in my Vauxhall Nova through to the FIA World Rally Championship with Hyundai and Mitsubishi, it wasn’t until I competed in the Dakar Rally in 2009 that I was faced with a challenge that took me by surprise. It was by far the toughest event I’ve ever competed in but also, extremely rewarding.

The Race2Recovery project lets me know I did it the easy way. I’m sure their dedication and determination will bring them to the finish line. They are an inspiration and truly deserve support.”
Alister McRae - 2011 Asia-Pacific Rally Champion, former British Rally Champion, works WRC driver and Dakar competitor

Martin Rowe

“Dakar is the ultimate endurance test for vehicles and competitors and this is definitely not an easy fund raiser – these guys will earn every penny of every donation.
The event will take months of preparation; it’s not just about the driver and the co-driver – it will be a huge test for the whole team working together to get to the finish.
I wish them the very best of luck and will be following their progress closely on their journey”

Martin Rowe - Former multiple British and Production car World Rally Champion
