Captain Anthony Harris – DriverA veteran of Northern Ireland and three tours in Iraq, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers Captain Anthony Harris was seriously injured in May 2009 when his Jackal patrol vehicle was destroyed by an IED in Sangin, Afghanistan. The blast shattered both of Tony’s ankles and ripped apart his left elbow.After 10 months of operations, Tony chose to have his leg amputated below the knee. Tony is still adjusting to his amputation with the help of his wife, Liz, son Felix (4) and daughter Emily (2) who was born while he was on tour in Afghanistan. Tony is now back working as a serving Officer and is one of founding members of Race2Recovery. |

Corporal Tom Neathway – Co-DriverA member of the Parachute Regiment since 2001, Tom is a veteran of multiple tours of Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan. On his last tour of Afghanistan in 2008, Tom triggered a booby trap while covering his platoon moving forward.The blast took off both of his feet and the severity of his wounds and a resulting infection led to the amputation of both of Tom’s legs and his left arm. A true testament to his character, Tom claims he is “as crazy today as he was before his injuries.” Tom still works within the Parachute Regiment. |

Warrant Officer Class 1 Andrew ‘Pav’ Taylor – Team ManagerAn Army veteran of 23 years, Pav began his military career in the first Gulf War aged 18. During his tour of Afghanistan in 2008, his vehicle was blown up by a suicide bomber. As the treatment to his back injuries continued, Pav’s condition deteriorated, resulting in a spinal fusion.Andrew is married to Liz, has two girls, Laura (18) and Abbie (10). Currently in the process of being medically discharged from the Army and preparing himself for life on ‘civvy street’, he is the project’s team manager. |

Corporal Phillip Gillespie – MechanicAlready a hardened veteran of Afghanistan at 22, Phillip, of 1 Royal Irish, was partway through his third tour when he stood on an IED during a routine foot patrol. Even though the blast blew off his right leg below the knee and inflicted multiple fractures to his left leg, Phillip was able to celebrate his 23rd birthday with his girlfriend Kirsty after spending just one month in hospital.After 6 operations, unshakable determination and endless support from Kirsty, Phillip joins the project as a member of the mechanical team just 5 months after sustaining his injuries. |

Corporal Wayne Williams – Mechanic Wayne, a 32-year-old Corporal from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, was seriously injured while on operations in Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, when a metal fragment severed an artery in his neck. The injury left Wayne with a paralysed vocal cord.As well as regular rehabilitation to strengthen his one working vocal cord, Wayne has had various operations in the 6 months since his accident to help him try to regain his full speech.
Working as a mechanic for the rally team, Wayne is currently serving with a unit and hopes to return to Afghanistan. |

Captain Matt O’Hare – Co-DriverMatt has served with the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers for 11 years, and has completed multiple tours of Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan where he was Mentioned in Dispatches for courage and leadership. Matt has competed in motorcycle circuit racing, and currently races in motorcycle endure racing as part of the preparation for the Dakar, and leads the team’s fundraising effort.
On 2010 tour of Afghanistan where Tony received his injury, Matt and Tony were originally earmarked to do each other’s job, until a last-minute change. |

Dave Marsh – Driver, Constructor and Racing Advisor Since school days Dave has been involved in off road motorsport and his career has seen him win cross-country and rally events from 1989 to 2000. He has organised three national rallies, two British championship events and acted as a special advisor to the MSA on cross-country vehicle regulations. After spending a number of years dedicating his efforts to the Qt Services business manufacturing the Wildcat has now enabled him to return to his passion of racing at the very top of the sport.These experiences have enabled him to be involved with some extraordinary people and the Race2Recovery team are no exception. He is proud to be able to support them in any way possible and it is clear that the team’s efforts are not only notable in themselves but inspire others to achieve what they thought they could not. |

David Reeve – Mechanical Team Manager and civilian advisorA rally veteran of two decades, 57-year-old Dave is a civilian advisor to Race2Recovery and the team’s mechanical manager. Married to Debbie, an occupational therapist, Dave has two teenage children, Alice and James. Dave closed his business as a carpenter and joiner in 2007 to provide full-time care for his mother who has dementia. Now that she has moved into a care home, Dave is pleased to have a new focus and is relishing his role with the team. Although he has gained so much from working with this inspirational group of people, his main aim and his dream is to be at the start line to see the team begin and at the finishing line of the Dakar Rally to watch the Race2Recovery team complete this amazing challenge. |
