RACE2RECOVERY FUNDRAISING IN SUPPORT OF TEDWORTH HOUSE – A HELP FOR HEROES PROJECT.

Having seen at first hand the incredible work done by the service charities the team have chosen to support the Help for Heroes Tedworth House Project, a ground breaking and inspirational concept that will revolutionise the Defence Recovery Pathway for wounded military personnel now and for the rest of their lives.

Based in Wiltshire, Tedworth is already partly operational as a Personnel Recovery Centre operating hand-in-hand with the MoD, the Royal British Legion and many other service charities to provide a comprehensive pathway to establish the wounded, injured and sick back into the next phase of their lives.

Here they can benefit from learning new skills, getting qualifications, career advice and work experience. They can make use of a state of the art gym, living areas and most importantly they can access the ground breaking concept of a “One Stop Welfare Shop”. For the first time those recovering from their injuries, be they mental or physical, Navy, Army or RAF, can access specialist agencies, charities and local social services where a joint solution can be tailored to the individual and their family.

The injured team members feel that this will really change the way that they move on with their lives. Tedworth House has finally given them the best access to the incredible charities that support them throughout their recovery and for the rest of their lives.

Help for Heroes:

Help for Heroes (H4H) was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry after a profoundly moving visit to Selly Oak Hospital in the summer of 2007. Bryn and Emma met some extraordinarily brave young people who had been badly wounded and they just wanted to do something to help. The original idea was to go on a bike ride from Caen to Cannes and raise £10,000, but following a suggestion from General Sir Richard Dannatt, the idea grew and Emma and Bryn took on the challenge to raise £8million to build a new Rehabilitation Complex at Headley Court. The ‘Big Battlefield Bike Ride’ happened in May 2008. Emma and Bryn rode 350 miles through France alongside 300 cyclists from all walks of life including Generals and Corporals, housewives, businessmen, even a Page 3 girl, to raise a staggering £1.4m, Within eight months, H4H had achieved its initial aim – raising £8 million – but the money kept pouring in. H4H had touched a nerve with the British public and fast become a national phenomenon.
